Solutions

Please check before contacting us:

1. Determine where the speed problem lies: this can include browsing websites, playing games, downloading etc. Check the speed of your connection against the speeds listed below to determine if your speed is acceptable. If you find that the speed falls within the corresponding speed approximations then the issue maybe with your private equipment.

Download Speeds
256k connection = approx 18-25 KB/second
512k connection = approx 35-50 KB/second
1.5Mbps connection = approx 120-150 KB/second
8Mbps connection = approx 130+ KB/second

Note the times of the day that the slow speeds are occuring and to which sites they occur. Remember that due to geographical locations, sites outside Australia will generally have slower speeds that those located in Australia.

2. Has your service been shaped? Shaping is the term used for slowing the speed of your connection when you reach your total traffic allowance for the calendar month. If you exceed your download limit, your connection speed will be "shaped" to a slower speed. This involves slowing your broadband connection to 64kbps (which is still faster than dial-up) for the remainder of the calendar month. At the end of the calendar month, the normal speeds of your plan will resume and your quota will be reset.
